On Monday, March 26, 2012, a new gadget was presented by Marek W. Urban at the American Chemical Society in San Diego. The unique trait about this invention is that it has been built with a plastic that uses pigments to turn a defected area red and under certain conditions, can heal itself like human skin. Urban's motive was to help people identify minuscule damages in their products. It could "improve safety by drawing attention to a structural defect and it could repair minor defects in the presence of intense light." The great part about this invention is the fact that the self-healing plastic can be used on all sorts of products such as cell phone screens and car fenders. I think this creation is an incredible addition to the science world. It is an excellent way to save money and is a great safety boost. With its self-healing abilities, people don't have to spend money on repairs and car insurance. Also, this plastic can work repeatedly. Therefore, people don't have to restock their materials and spend anymore money. This plastic's self-healing ability is extremely convenient, too. It works in the presence of sunlight, under visible light from a bulb, in pH changes, and in different temperatures. The self-healing ability also keeps the product looking good-as-new all the time. With this technology in our hands, I feel that everyone will prosper.
