Today, in class, we worked on a lab that involved the mixture of the chemical compound, Iodine, and a spoonful of powdered starch. This was our first lab in which we had to wear safety equipment. Last year, we did many labs, but none needed any such equipment. Our lab started off with placing a spoonful of powdered starch into a plastic baggie. After that, everyone was told to fill a beaker with about 150 mL of water. Once done, we had to pour the water into the same baggie that had the powdered starch inside. Following that, we were told to fill the beaker halfway with water. That was about 300 mL of water. After that our teacher came around and mixed a small amount of Iodine into the beaker. Now, we had to place the baggie with the starch content inside the beaker. We were all a little surprised by the directions, but we did as we were told. Our teacher informed us that now we had to wait for 15 minutes for the results to appear. Well, you know what? There were no such results! Nothing changed. Our science teacher was a little shocked that the lab didn't work as it should have. We're going to try it again tomorrow to hope for the best at lab time.
